The Reality of Foldable Phones in 2026: I Used One for a Month

My Folding Diary

I spent a whole month without my regular iPhone 17. I went to a Pixel Fold 3 and then a Z Fold 8. Honestly, it was a lot. I'm used to a phone that's thin and light. These are not. They're heavy. They're thick. Sometimes I felt like I was carrying a chocolate bar in my pocket.

But when you open it up? Everything changes. Writing an email on a 7.6 inch screen is a dream. You'll never go back to squinting at a tiny 6 inch panel after that.

The Crease (Yes, It's still there)

I think we all need to admit the crease isn't going away. You can see it if the light hits it at a 45 degree angle. You can feel it if you're scrolling with your thumb. But in my experience, you just stop seeing it after about three days. It's like a smudge on your glasses. Your brain just learns to ignore it.

What I don't love is the fear. Every time I heard a tiny "crank" noise while opening the Fold 8, my heart stopped. These things are $1,800 or more. That's a lot of money to be walking around with if it's that fragile.

Who's it for?

If you're a spreadsheet person or you watch a lot of YouTube on the train, you'll love a foldable. I think it's the future of productivity. But if you just text and take selfies, don't bother. It's too much work. It's heavy. It's expensive.

Honestly, I think most people are still better off with a normal flagship. But if you're someone who always needs to have the newest thing? Go for it. You'll be the center of attention every time you open it in a cafe. Just don't drop it.
